“Many people around the world are beginning to appreciate that climate change is under way, that it’s having consequences that are playing out in real time and, in the United States at least, we are seeing more and more examples of extreme weather and extreme climate-related events,” Lubchenco told a university forum in the Australian capital of Canberra.
“People’s perceptions in the United States at least are in many cases beginning to change as they experience something first-hand that they at least think is directly attributable to climate change,” she said.

Tancredo Rant
Because Tom Tancredo says that La Raza is the the Hispanic KKK, and La Raza's about the same speed as the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick ony Hispanic rather than Irish, and I guess since I attended the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick picnic in 1985 (Pete Gillen, the newly hired head coach at Xavier was there to), I, too must meet Tom Tancredo's definition of a racist.

183
How does anyone survive being waterboarded 183 times - - in one month. That's over 6 times a day, and most assuredly it wasn't with that level of consistency, I'm assuming.
I was also struck by the clinical nature of the commentary from the Bradbury report:
I was also struck by the clinical nature of the commentary from the Bradbury report:
...where authorized, it may be used for two "sessions" per day of up to two hours. During a session, water may be applied up to six times for ten seconds or longer (but never more than 40 seconds). In a 24-hour period, a detainee may be subjected to up to twelve minutes of water appliaction....Additionally, the waterboard may be used on as many as five days during a 30-day approval period.Thinking about those times in my life, either as a result of some foolishness underwater, or something going down the wrong pipe, experiencing just a few seconds of the panicked sensation of not being able to breathe, and then multiplying it out to the extent of what is described here is unfathomable.

Best Comment Yet on the AIG Scandal

Things I Did Not Know
From the World Baseball Classic an interesting twist to keep things moving in the extra inning games.
Extra Innings: After 12 innings, each half inning will start with runners on first and second. - these runners will be the 8th and 9th hitters due up in that inning.Kind of interesting. They do have pitch limits at each stages of the tournament, and mercy rule(s) as well.

Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church give Baptists a Bad Name
This story on the response to Fred Phelps and the members of his questionably sane churn in Kansas City is quite inspirational, and gives hope that a new generation will reach to higher, more active level in defense tolerance.

Climate Change Deniers' Bad News Holiday Release
No problem here. Move along:
"In one of the report's most worrisome findings, the agency estimates that in light of recent ice sheet melting, global sea level rise could be as much as four feet by 2100. The IPCC had projected a sea level rise of no more than 1.5 feet by that time, but satellite data over the past two years show the world's major ice sheets are melting much more rapidly than previously thought. The Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are now losing an average of 48 cubic miles of ice a year, equivalent to twice the amount of ice that exists in the Alps."

We are living through the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression. There, I said it. Having written it, now I have to let it sink in. It'll even be wierder when I see it posted.

Burrowing
I thought the only burrowing I'd hear about in the eight years of this hellish administration is Barney at the ranch in Crawford. This is more mailicious than stealing all the "W's" from the White House computer keyboards.

I Get Email (The Happy Kind)
Friends,
Thank you for all that you did to make Tuesday November 4th possible.
The hard work and dedication that you put into this campaign enabled us to bring about the change that we need in Washington.
Now that the election is over, it is time to turn our attention to the real work that is at hand.
I look forward to working to ensure that the residents of Cincinnati, and the State of Ohio, have the representation that they deserve in the 111th Congress.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions or concerns.
I look forward to serving you in the United States House of Representatives.
Thank you again for your support.
